We woke up at 5am this morning to walk to the Novotel, where we took the coach on our full day tour. We thought about sneaking into the Novotel buffet breakfast, but decided against it and had brekkie at the 24hr Maccas across the road. At this point I looked up the AFL grand Final scores. Collingwood were leading by 4 points hallway thru the 3rd quarter. For the rest of the day, I was thinking Collingwood had gone back to back. Not until we got back to the hotel, at 10pm did I hear that Geelong had a huge final quarter to win by 6 goals.
Windsor Castle was first stop, a 900 year old castle where the queen lives 60 days of the year. Views overlooking Windsor and Eton College were amazing. Actual castle was full of old stuff. Queen Mary’s dolls house was interesting. We had 90 min to race around the castle before jumping back on the coach. We did manage to see the changing of the Windsor guards in this time.
A picnic lunch was waiting for us on the coach. It took over an hour to get to Bath. During that time, our tour guide, Tony, related some funny stories about the royal family. In Bath, we explored the old Roman Baths. They were fascinating. It was the hottest October day in London’s history, so I wouldn’t have minded going for a dip. Too bad, the water stunk and hadn’t been drained in 3000 years. We took a stroll around Bath, walked over the Florentine Bridge that had shops along either side. There was a huge Rugby game going on, fans were wearing the Blue and Black colours of Blackmore everywhere.
Our final coach stop was Stonehenge. We had to get some pics kicking the the footy in front of the giant stones. We were having so much fun, I am sure that there were some other tourists there who took more photos of us playing footy, than they took of the actual Stonehenge. The coach dropped us a Gloucester Square, and we had to take the tube back to Russell Square. Talk about sardines… a word of advice, never take the tube between 5pm and 7pm. For dinner, we found a nice Indian restaurant in Russell Square. The food was delicious. No show tonight, because we had to do some laundry, our first laundry since we had arrived.
