Morocco
October, 2011
We walked off the boat this morning and were immediately harassed by countless tour guides wanting to show us Morocco. We managed to get past them all and headed for the Grand Suq in the Medina. On our way, a guy started chatting to us and he told us he loved Australians. I made the mistake of talking back to him and next thing we knew we were on a tour! His name was Abdul and he took us around the funky cold Medina. He showed us the Kasbah and a panoramic view of the city from the top of one of the carpet shops.
Abdul offered us some mint tea, but we were to scared to try any. He took us to the site of where Matt Damon jumped through a window in “The Bourne Identity”. We visited a carpet store, a spice market and a few jewelry stores. In the end, we bought nothing so Abdul received no commission. He wanted us to pay him 80 Euro, but I told him we never asked for his business. In the end I gave him 20 Euro and we walked back to the boat for lunch.
