Ocho Rios, Jamaica
December, 2011
Wednesday, December 7 Jamaica
Today was a port that we had been waiting to visit for a very long time, for obvious reasons. We had pre-booked a shore excursion to go river tubing on the white river. It was spectacular. The water was warm and we were in the water for over an hour as we travelled down the river for three miles. The rapids were quite rugged in places, and we all came out at least once, except Gwen.
Our tour guides were very funny and they were singing Caribbean songs all the way down the river. Unfortunately, we had no money to tip them, as we had left all our cash on board the ship. Our taxi driver was a funny guy but he made me nervous when he told us that Jamaicans don’t drink and drive, instead they smoke and fly. That is not what you want to hear when you are travelling up a one-lane two-way windy mountain road.
On the way back to the ship, we stopped to buy some souvenirs. Jamaica was in heaven, because everything had her name on it! We bought a fair bit, but could not pay for it, so the taxi driver organised an IOU for us and we had to pay him when he took us back to the ship.
After lunch, Gwen and I took Jamaica out to the local town, Ocho Rios, where we found some more shops and some free wifi.
