Lowenstein, Germany

Sunday, December 25 Loewenstein
We awoke at 4:30 still suffering from jet lag. Gwen used skype to contact her mum and dad. I went back to sleep and did nit wake until 9am. Breakfast was a feast of cheeses, salami, fruit, yoghurts, cereals and breads. After breakfast, we went for a walk around the lake. We found playground and the kids had fun riding the flying fox and the spinning wheel. We spent some time skipping some stones on the lake, before heading back for Christmas lunch.
Carmen’s parents and her sister’s family were there also. Carmen’s brother in law, Burnt, was a funny guy and he told us all the places that we should visit while we are in Germany. We had saurbeef and rabbit for lunch. It was delicious. We ate, talked and played gamed until 5pm. The trivia game was fun. It was like bible jeapoardy. The girls beat the boys. Dessert was crème caramel with peach, pear and blueberry sauce. Carmen’s mum was hilarious. She loved to stir everybody up.
I had a nap when everyone left. We had dinner at 9pm in the basement with Ruth’s sister, Rachel and her husband, Bernie. We sang some Karaoke while Gwen did some laundry. We also booked a car to drive to Neuschwanstein and Salzburg later in the week.
Sunday, January 1 Lowenstein
Today everybody slept in. It was a lazy day, as we did not get home until after 2pm last night. After breakfast, we set up the table tennis table. Helmut, Zeke, Jamaica and I played some doubles. At 1pm, the ski jumping from Garmisch was on TV, so we watched. The Germans did not do so well, and it was won by an Austrian. We drove into town, to the local bowling centre.
This was not 10-pin bowling, rather it was 9-pin kegel. Zeke and Jamaica were appointed captains. They chose three teammates each. Jamaica chose Sebastian, Ruth and me. We won two games, and Zeke’s team won only 1. It was a lot of fun. Ruth retired after the first game, and Sebastian’s friend, Haiko, took over. Between us all, we sent down over 600 bowls, but only twice did we knock down all 9 pins. Sebastian got it once, and I got I the other time.
We went back to the Hagos for dinner, then we all had an early night.
