Ohringen
December, 2011
Saturday, December 31 Ohringen
After breakfast, Sebastian leant us his smart car, and we went into the tow of Ohringen to buy some fireworks. We tried to withdraw some cash, but our card did not work in two different ATMs. We called the commonwealth bank in Australia, but they said that there is no problem.
We looked at a camera shop, to see if they could repair our lens. They could, but it would take one week. They tried to sell us a new lens, but for 200 euro, we thought it was not worth it, as it should be covered under warranty, when we get back to Australia.
We visited an 800 year old church in Ohringen, which is still covered in bullet holes from WWII. Apparently, Ohringen is where the 2006 socceroos set up their training base for the World Cup.
We had lunch at Maccas, then we went home and I had a siesta. At 6pm, we drove to Bernie’s parents house to celebrate Silvester. They live in a huge factory in an industrial area. The parents are on the top floor, Bernie and Rachel anre in the basement and they have a massive party room on the 2nd floor. We played billiards, did some jeopardy quizzes played some othergames, and ate plenty of food.
We had a small church service, then at midnight, the fireworks came out. The guys were loving it. They put on a great show. Even Zeke and Jamaica had fun lighting up the rockets with the blow torch. It certainly was a new year’s eve that we will never forget.
