Macau

Monday, December 24 Macau
We had breakfast at 7am, before walking to the china ferry terminal to catch our 8:30 ferry to macau. We had found out today that we had to be back onboad no later than 3pm because the HK immigration people needed to process our papers. Our problem was that yesterday we had booked a return ferry trip to macau arriving back at 4pm. Macau is another country, so going through customs and having your passport stamped was going to delay us even further. We had allocated seats, so they could not swap us to an earlier ferry. Oh well, we headed to macau anyway. Macau is the Las Vegas of the East. It is filled with casinos and fancy hotels. When we got off the ferry, we took a free shuttle to the Venetian hotel, famous for its grand canal that runs through the hotel. The shopping arcade inside is amazing. It actually looks like venice. The roof is painted blue with clouds, and all the venetian landmarks are found inside. The place is huge. We had lunch there and took many photos. It actually appears that you are outside but really everything is indoors. We took another shuttle to the Sands Hotel, but the kids were not allowed inside because it was a huge casino, so we walked across the road to the fisherman’s wharf, which was an amusement park with many miniature monuments from around the world, including the colleseum, the forbidden city, a volcano, the water cube, etc. It was great fun exploring the streets of the fisherman’s wharf. We headed back to the ferry terminal at 1:30pm and walked straight onto a ferry somehow, and got back to HK by 3pm.
